Qualifications and requirements

To be considered for an editorial role at JCTD, applicants should meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.D.S., D.M.D., or equivalent) in dentistry, oral health sciences, biomedical sciences, or closely related fields.
  • Demonstrate a strong track record of academic and/or clinical research, with publications in reputable peer-reviewed journals.
  • Have previous experience as an editor, associate editor, or peer reviewer for academic journals. Familiarity with editorial workflows and manuscript management systems is highly desirable.
  • Possess excellent written and verbal communication skills in English and a strong attention to detail.
  • Be committed to ethical publishing practices, timely editorial decision-making, and constructive peer review.
  • Be willing to handle a reasonable number of manuscripts per year and participate in strategic planning initiatives.
  • Show enthusiasm for promoting open-access publishing and expanding the journal’s global reach.
  • Applicants from diverse backgrounds and geographical locations are encouraged to apply, as we value broad representation and inclusivity on our editorial board.

Roles and responsibilities

Editorial board members are expected to:

  • Manage the peer review process for submitted manuscripts, including selecting reviewers, assessing reviewer feedback, and making editorial decisions in line with journal policies.
  • Ensure the scientific rigor, novelty, and relevance of accepted articles and that they align with the journal’s aims and scope.
  • Uphold and promote ethical standards in academic publishing, including addressing plagiarism, data fabrication, and conflicts of interest.
  • Work with the Editor-in-Chief and the broader editorial team to develop and implement editorial strategies, propose special issues, and solicit high-quality submissions from their professional networks.
  • Contribute editorial content, such as editorials, commentaries, or special section introductions, where appropriate.
  • Engage in outreach and promotion of the journal by attending conferences, sharing content, and encouraging peer submissions.
  • Participate in periodic virtual editorial board meetings to review journal progress and propose improvements.

Term of appointment

The initial appointment to the editorial board is for a two-year term, renewable upon mutual agreement based on performance and continued interest. The number of manuscripts handled annually may vary depending on expertise and submission volume, and flexibility is provided to accommodate professional commitments.
