About the Journal

The Journal of Clinical and Translational Dentistry (JCTD) is an open-access, peer-reviewed journal committed to advancing the science and practice of dentistry through the dissemination of high-quality research. JCTD serves as a dynamic platform for clinicians, researchers, and academics to publish innovative and impactful studies that bridge the gap between laboratory discoveries and clinical applications in dental science. The journal emphasizes translational research that brings scientific breakthroughs into effective diagnostic, preventive, and therapeutic interventions in oral health.

Our scope encompasses a broad range of topics within clinical dentistry, including restorative and prosthetic dentistry, periodontology, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric dentistry, and dental public health. Additionally, we welcome research that integrates basic biomedical sciences with clinical insights, such as biomaterials, oral microbiology, molecular dentistry, and regenerative therapies.

JCTD is dedicated to fostering collaboration across disciplines and encouraging the development of evidence-based practices that improve patient outcomes and quality of life. With a rigorous peer-review process and a commitment to scientific integrity, the journal supports the global dental community by publishing original research articles, systematic reviews, case reports, and short communications that contribute meaningfully to both clinical practice and dental research. Authors are encouraged to submit work in the following areas, but not limited to,

Clinical trials and interventions in dental medicine: JCTD welcomes randomized controlled trials, pilot studies, and intervention assessments related to preventive, restorative, prosthetic, periodontal, and surgical dental procedures. These studies must be designed to yield reliable, clinically applicable results that influence dental practice.

Innovations in dental diagnostics: We encourage submissions that report on advancements in diagnostic tools such as imaging technologies, salivary biomarkers, or AI-based diagnostic platforms. These innovations should contribute to earlier, more accurate detection of oral diseases.

Regenerative and reconstructive dentistry: This area includes research on tissue engineering, biomaterials, and stem cell therapies aimed at regenerating dental tissues or reconstructing damaged oral structures. Translational efforts that demonstrate clinical feasibility and patient outcomes are particularly valued.

Precision dentistry and personalized oral care: The journal seeks research focused on genomic, proteomic, or metabolomic approaches that enable tailored dental care. Articles should show how individualized treatment plans can enhance therapeutic efficacy and patient compliance.

Digital dentistry and CAD/CAM technologies: We accept original studies and reviews on the integration of digital workflows, including intraoral scanning, 3D printing, and CAD/CAM systems. Research must demonstrate how digital innovation improves efficiency, accuracy, and patient satisfaction.

Artificial intelligence and machine learning in dentistry: JCTD invites contributions exploring the application of AI and machine learning in dental diagnostics, treatment planning, predictive analytics, and patient monitoring. Emphasis is placed on clinically validated models that enhance decision-making.

Biomaterials for clinical applications: The journal supports research on novel dental biomaterials—such as bioceramics, biopolymers, and nanocomposites—used in restorative or prosthetic dentistry. Studies should evaluate biocompatibility, durability, and translational potential.

Periodontal therapy and translational periodontology: This includes research that translates cellular, molecular, or microbiological insights into effective periodontal therapies. Clinical trials assessing novel approaches to prevent or treat periodontal disease are encouraged.

Implantology and translational implant research: Submissions in this area may focus on innovations in implant design, surface modifications, or surgical techniques that improve osseointegration and clinical outcomes. Research linking biomechanics and biology with practice is especially welcome.

Oral microbiome and systemic health: JCTD encourages research investigating the oral microbiome’s role in health and disease, including its connection to systemic conditions like cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Translational studies that suggest clinical interventions based on microbiome profiles are prioritized.

Interdisciplinary approaches in oral medicine: We publish studies that integrate disciplines such as oncology, endocrinology, or immunology into dental research. Articles should demonstrate how interdisciplinary collaborations enhance oral disease management.

Craniofacial development and anomalies: This includes clinical and translational research on congenital anomalies such as cleft lip/palate or craniofacial dysostoses. We seek studies that bridge genetics, developmental biology, and surgical correction strategies.

Oral cancer and precancerous lesions: Research on early detection, biomarker discovery, and innovative therapies for oral cancer and pre-malignant conditions is welcome. Emphasis is placed on studies that improve diagnostic accuracy and patient survival.

Temporomandibular joint disorders and orofacial pain: This section includes translational studies that investigate the pathophysiology, diagnosis, and treatment of TMD and chronic orofacial pain. Research should offer novel, evidence-based strategies for patient care.

Pediatric and adolescent oral health: We invite studies that explore the unique aspects of oral health in children and adolescents, from preventive strategies to early orthodontic interventions. Articles should emphasize long-term health outcomes.

Geriatric dentistry and aging populations: Research in this area should address the dental needs of elderly patients, including those with systemic comorbidities. Studies may cover prosthodontics, oral cancer, medication-related osteonecrosis, and care accessibility.

Public health dentistry and translational epidemiology: This scope includes population-based studies that translate epidemiologic data into public health interventions. Research on disease prevention, health promotion, and policy impact is especially relevant

Oral-systemic disease interactions: JCTD encourages manuscripts examining the bidirectional relationships between oral diseases and systemic conditions. Translational studies that lead to integrated care models are particularly impactful.

Pain management and anesthesiology in dentistry: This area includes innovative approaches to local and general anesthesia, as well as research on pain control methods for dental procedures. Studies on patient safety, comfort, and recovery are valued.

Infection control and antimicrobial resistance: We welcome studies addressing infection prevention, sterilization protocols, and resistance mechanisms in dental practice. Translational research leading to safer clinical environments is encouraged.

Behavioral sciences and patient-centered care: Submissions should explore the role of behavior, communication, and psychosocial factors in dental care. Research that enhances patient adherence, trust, and satisfaction is highly encouraged.

Educational innovations in clinical dentistry: JCTD accepts articles on novel teaching methodologies, simulation, and competency-based education in clinical dentistry. Research should assess the impact of educational strategies on learner outcomes and patient care.

Dental pharmacology and therapeutics: This includes translational research on drug delivery systems, pharmacokinetics, and dental medication interactions. Studies should demonstrate clinical applicability and safety.

Oral imaging and diagnostic radiology: We encourage research on innovations in imaging modalities, including cone beam CT, MRI, and optical imaging. Articles should emphasize diagnostic accuracy, dose reduction, and clinical decision-making support.
