Journal Manager – Journal of Clinical and Translational Dentistry (JCTD)

Genesis Publishing Consortium Limited (GPCL) is seeking an experienced and highly organized Journal Manager to lead the operational management of the Journal of Clinical and Translational Dentistry (JCTD). This is an exciting opportunity for individuals passionate about dental sciences and academic publishing, especially at the intersection of clinical practice and translational research in oral health.

As Journal Manager, you will be responsible for ensuring the efficient and ethical operation of the journal’s editorial and publishing processes. You will work closely with the Editor-in-Chief, editorial board members, reviewers, authors, and the publisher to maintain high standards and timely publication.

Reports to: Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Clinical and Translational Dentistry

Term of Employment: Full-time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day editorial operations, including manuscript submission, peer review, and publication workflows.
  • Liaise with the Editor-in-Chief and editorial board to define and implement editorial strategies, guidelines, and quality standards.
  • Administer manuscript tracking systems, coordinating communication among authors, editors, and reviewers.
  • Monitor peer-review progress and ensure timely reviewer assignments, responses, and editorial decisions.
  • Draft or assist with editorial decisions and maintain ethical standards, including plagiarism checks and conflict-of-interest policies.
  • Ensure the journal’s web presence (website, submission system) is current, including calls for papers and announcements.
  • Develop promotional strategies to increase journal visibility, submissions, and readership within the dental and clinical research community.
  • Generate and analyze key journal metrics and provide regular performance reports.
  • Coordinate production workflows with the publisher, ensuring accuracy in editing, formatting, and publishing.
  • Organize and support special issues, including guest editor recruitment and content oversight.
  • Ensure compliance with academic publishing standards, copyright policies, and open-access mandates.

Qualifications and requirements

  • A Master’s degree or higher in dentistry, public health, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline.
  • Advanced degrees (e.g., MSc, MPhil) with substantial professional, clinical, or research experience may also be considered.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in academic publishing or editorial management, preferably in health sciences or dentistry.
  • Strong understanding of academic publishing, manuscript submission systems, and peer review processes.
  • Proven experience managing editorial workflows, coordinating with authors, reviewers, and editors, and overseeing publication schedules.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse stakeholders.
  • Familiarity with journal management software and manuscript tracking systems (e.g., Editorial Manager, ScholarOne, OJS).
  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with a commitment to maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Fluency in English with strong editing and proofreading abilities.
  • Proactive, adaptable, and able to anticipate challenges and propose solutions.

Preferred skills

  • Experience in digital publishing platforms and academic indexing services (e.g., PubMed, Scopus).
  • Knowledge of dental research trends, terminology, and professional networks.
  • Familiarity with journal marketing and outreach to boost author and reader engagement.
  • Understanding of ethical standards in publishing, such as COPE, ICMJE, and open-access policies.
