Genesis Publishing Consortium Limited (GPCL) is seeking an experienced and motivated individual to join our team as the Journal Manager for the Journal of Pharmacology and Medicine Research (JPMR). This is a key leadership position that offers a unique opportunity to oversee the day-to-day operations of a prestigious, peer-reviewed journal focused on advancing knowledge and research in pharmacology, medicine, and medical sciences.

The Journal Manager will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the journal, working closely with the editorial team, reviewers, authors, and other stakeholders to maintain the highest standards of scholarly publishing. This position requires a dynamic individual with exceptional organizational, communication, and leadership skills, a passion for academic publishing, and a strong background in managing editorial processes.

Reports To: Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Pharmacology and Medicine Research

Term of Employment: Full-time, Permanent

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the editorial workflow of JPMR, ensuring that submissions, reviews, and publication processes are handled efficiently and in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editors, and the editorial board to develop and implement editorial strategies, policies, and standards.
  • Coordinate the peer review process, ensuring that reviewers are selected, manuscripts are processed, and feedback is provided in a timely and professional manner.
  • Manage the submission and manuscript tracking system, ensuring seamless communication between authors, reviewers, and the editorial team.
  • Assist in the editorial decision-making process by providing support in evaluating submissions, drafting editorial decisions, and ensuring that all editorial processes adhere to ethical standards.
  • Ensure the journal’s website and manuscript submission system are updated regularly with relevant content and information, including calls for papers, special issues, and editorial board updates.
  • Assist with the development and implementation of journal marketing strategies to increase submissions, readership, and visibility.
  • Monitor and analyze journal metrics, including submission rates, acceptance rates, impact factors, and other key performance indicators, providing regular reports to the editorial team.
  • Work closely with the publisher to ensure that the journal’s production, including editing, formatting, and final publication, meets the highest quality standards.
  • Ensure the journal complies with all relevant academic and publishing standards, including copyright, plagiarism checks, and ethical guidelines.
  • Manage communication with authors, reviewers, editors, and other stakeholders to ensure a positive and professional experience for all parties.
  • Contribute to the journal’s growth by identifying new opportunities for collaboration, partnerships, and enhancements to the publishing process.
  • Support the development and execution of special issues, including guest editor coordination, content management, and outreach efforts.

Qualifications and requirements

  • A Master’s degree or higher in a relevant field such as pharmacology, medicine, medical sciences, or a related discipline is required.
  • At least 3-5 years (no experience required for the person who published multiple articles in Scopus-indexed journal) of experience in academic publishing, editorial management, or journal operations, preferably within the fields of pharmacology, medicine, or related sciences.
  • Strong understanding of the academic publishing industry, including manuscript submission systems, peer review processes, and ethical standards in scholarly publishing.
  • Proven experience in managing editorial workflows, coordinating with authors, reviewers, and editors, and overseeing publication schedules.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines effectively.
  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to interact with diverse stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Familiarity with journal management software and manuscript tracking systems (e.g., Editorial Manager, ScholarOne, OJS or similar platforms).
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to maintaining high-quality standards.
  • Fluency in English with excellent editing and proofreading abilities.
  • A proactive, adaptable approach to work, with the ability to anticipate challenges and develop solutions.

Preferred skills

  • Familiarity with digital publishing platforms, academic databases (e.g., PubMed, Scopus), and metrics tools (e.g., Impact Factor, Google Scholar).
  • Experience with journal marketing, including promoting the journal to potential authors, readers, and contributors.
  • Knowledge of copyright laws, plagiarism detection tools, and publishing ethics.
