Journal of Business Horizons and Management Terminates Editor-in-Chief Following Ethics Concerns

Maryland, United States — September 7, 2026: The Journal of Business Horizons and Management (JBHM) has terminated the appointment of Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun as its Editor-in-Chief following concerns related to editorial ethics and his reported professional association with an organization alleged by the publisher to have connections with paper-mill activities.

Dr. Al Mamun, who has been associated with the South Asia School of Business, University of South Asia, Dhaka, is currently an Assistant Professor at the Green Business School, Green University of Bangladesh.

According to Genesis Publishing Consortium Limited (GPCL), the publisher of JBHM, the decision to terminate Dr. Al Mamun’s editorial appointment followed an ethical review concerning his professional activities and affiliations. The publisher stated that his reported involvement as a director/consultant of an organization described as a paper-mill-related organization raised serious concerns regarding the standards expected of a senior journal editor.

Publisher Cites Editorial Ethics Concerns

The Editor-in-Chief is responsible for maintaining the integrity, independence, and credibility of a scholarly journal. GPCL stated that individuals occupying senior editorial positions are expected to maintain high standards of professional and publication ethics and to avoid relationships or activities that could create actual or perceived conflicts of interest.

The publisher said that the decision was taken to protect the editorial independence and reputation of JBHM and to ensure that its editorial governance remains consistent with recognized principles of research and publication ethics.

Ethics Office Responds

Dr. Sayali Nerurkar, Vice President of Ethics at Genesis Publishing Consortium Limited, commented on the termination:

“Genesis Publishing Consortium Limited maintains a zero-tolerance approach to unethical conduct, conflicts of interest, and activities that may undermine the integrity and credibility of scholarly publishing. Following an ethical review concerning the professional affiliations and activities associated with Dr. Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, the organization determined that his continued service as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Business Horizons and Management was no longer appropriate.”

Dr. Nerurkar added that editorial positions carry substantial responsibility and require strict adherence to principles of transparency, independence, research integrity, and appropriate management of conflicts of interest.

She further stated that GPCL will continue to review editorial appointments where concerns arise that could affect the integrity or credibility of its journals.

Editorial Leadership to Be Reviewed

Following the termination, GPCL will make arrangements concerning the future editorial leadership of the Journal of Business Horizons and Management.

The publisher emphasized that the action relates specifically to Dr. Al Mamun’s position as Editor-in-Chief of JBHM. The termination of an editorial appointment should not, by itself, be interpreted as a determination concerning his current academic employment or other professional activities.

GPCL stated that JBHM will continue its publishing activities while strengthening its commitment to editorial independence, responsible peer review, transparency, and internationally recognized publication-ethics principles.
